Austin City Limits Fest

Anybody want to take a road trip in September to Austin? They've released the lineup here. The bands I'll probably see are, in no particular order: Stars, Feist, New Pornographers, The Shins, Wolf Parade, Gnarls Barkley, Van Morrison, Tom Petty, Flaming Lips, The Raconteurs, Nickel Creek, Iron & Wine, Aimee Mann, Sparklehorse, Ben Harper, Ted Leo, and Willie Nelson.

iPod Diary Part Deux

A pleasant idea Mr. Knight. Here is (are) mine:

1. I.O.U. - Metric. First song off Old World Underground. Not my favorite Metric song, but not bad. Metric is my favorite band to listen to whenever I get the urge to hear something really loud and rocking. Great live, too.

2. Dead and Lovely - Tom Waits. Amber likes this song, she won't listen to any Tom Waits unless it's ballad-ish. There's a massive box set coming out this fall called Orphans that's all obscure b-sides, I can't wait.

3. The Music Lovers - Destroyer. Destroyer is my new favorite band besides Broken Social Scene. This album (Your Blues) was my first introduction to them (other than his New Pornographers stuff), but it's completely unlike any of his other stuff, it's all synthesizers and weirdness. And it's way, way awesome. Destroyer's Rubies, the new album, is easily my album of the year so far.

4. The Spiderbite Song - Flaming Lips. This cd was in my car once on this song when Amber's grandparents were in town. They borrowed my car to go somewhere and said they had to turn the music off because it was too weird, something about spiders biting people. Sad to say I can't get into the new album as much as the last two. They're going to be at ACL this year though.

5. Let's Get Out of Here - Broken Social Scene. My iPod consists of roughly 1/4 BSS stuff. This is a song they did from an acoustic radio show in Paris a few years ago and is really, really good. Almost as good as their most recent b-side Death Cock.

Ipod Diary

A new feature on our bloggage is an Ipod Diary. I will be taking the maiden voyage. The point is to promote free debate throughout the world on the merits of music, and other various forms of media contained on our Ipods.
"The Shuffle" will be this week's installment. I am asking the contributors to take out your Ipod, hit shuffle, write down the first five songs, and give us a few sentences, (how you heard of the band, if you even like this particular song, if it's on the "outs") Be honest. it's more fun if the songs suck anyway.

Here goes,
Song - Flint (For the Unemployed and Underpaid) Album - Greetings from Michigan Artist - Sufjan Stevens
Who doesn't love Sufjan? Very slow song, which are not my favorites of his stuff, but very morose and lyrically superior to a lot of crap out there. Saw them live, very nice show

Song - Rebellion (Lies) Album - Funeral Artist - The Arcade Fire
Great freaking album. Chris Martin of Coldplay said this was the album of 2004. This isn't even close to one of the best songs on the album, and it's still awesome. I believe Jed saw them, and he must be disembowled for seeing them and not personally inviting me with a paid for plane ticket.

Song - Post-Paint Boy Album - Face the Truth Artist - Stephen Malkamus
Nice feel to this album, nice and cool. I feel cooler when I listen to this song. I have a confession though, I have barely listened to Pavement, and what I've heard I don't even like that much. I heard their first album, and it's alright, but it's a little too lo-fi for me. I like the clean sound.

Song - The Engine Driver Album - Picaresque Artist - Decemberists
I'm not too high on them anymore. They have a couple songs I still like, but I can't listen to it too much anymore. It's a skipper.

Song - Red Light Album - First Impressions of Earth Artist - The Strokes
I downloaded this album, and I really liked it for about a week. This stuff is terrible to me now. I always skip this now. I really don't like much about anything they've done at this point. It just sounds like crap to me.

New Downloads
Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam pretty good

I tried to buy Radiohead tickets. They are touring with Black Keys this summer, for a warmup tour, only 4 or 5 U.S. cities, at smaller venues. Tix sold out in about 5 minutes. I don't know anyone with tix. I looked on Ebay immediately after the show sold out, tix were going $250 each, or higher. Wild. New video of one of their new songs at greenplastic.com Check it.
